Avian Lifer 478 - Yellow-vented Green Pigeon

     Bukit Tinggi granted me a surprise catch a green pigeon which is a rarity in the highland. I was there alone at the  ole patch to see the resident chickens. After 2 session  I move out to look for the red-billed malkoha and red-bearded beeater. While shoooting a dark-necked tailorbird, I was called out by the resident gardener that a ficus tree was fruiting at the Japanese garden which is attracting many frugivorous birds. Saw some Red crowned Barbet, Brown Barbet as well as a pair of Silver-eared Broadbill until  a pair of Green Pigeon was spotted high up. Later identified it as the Yellow-vented.

Usually Yellow-vented GP are seen in coastal  marshland of Lumut  and lowland jungle  fringing hillside like  Kledang Sayong Range Ipoh, Kampar, Kuala Kubu Baru  and Taiping to name a few places. Like many other pigeon they are ranging and move around following the fruiting period from location to location.

The pigeon is more than a foot long. As you can see the vents of the tail is patchy yellow It also have a pintail which you can notice when its in flight. The male have a maroon shoulder patch whilst the female has plain but darker green shoulder. It has a striking and distinct  bluish beak which extend to its eye lore or eyering.

Avian Sighting in the month of August 2017 - Ferruginous Partridge Bukit Tinggi

Revisiting the chicken port at Bukit Tinggi  in the month of  August 2017. Glad to see  the family of  FP parent with their three chicks grown so much since  the past 5 weeks. They still continue to stay & feed together at the port.

Sadly  like in Rengit the place is strewed with water bottles and even a discarded stool. What a shame fellow bird photogs.  I really do not understand you guys...............sign. Please  be more responsible for your own  rubbish. Thank you.

The three siblings will come out and feed together. The parent sometime will chaperone them.It is heartening that they have grown so well.  Like the Peocock Pheasant family they are the star bird of Bukit Tinggi. The other hopeful bird that may have a comeback at the same port is the Malayan RailBabbler. You never know so do drop by if you feel lucky. October -November is a good time to visit as the migrant birds will be coming in from the wintering north. Wishing for the Japanese Paradise Fc though

Birding Site - Revisiting Bukit Rengit in the month of July 2017

Saturday the wifey and daughter at TzeChi camp so after dropping them  I drove myself to Bukit Rengit to see what the old hunt have to offer. Reaching the port  at about 7.45am I was surprise there is nobody around.

The daylight was very good but harsh. There was plenty of birds call and the familiar bellowing call of the Malayan Rail-Babbler was refreshing in the early hour. I really have not get any good pictures of it since my  early encounter last year.

The Hairy-backed Bulbul with its whitish-yellow eye patch was the first bird that came out in the open. Cannot  see the hair on the back though. Possibly a immature one with its parent.

The Ferruginous  babbler is the second bird to appear bwsides the White-rumped Sharma and a family of Oriental Magpie Robin with a fledgling.

YES!  The star bird is out looking for a mate from its expression and moves. It is quite active and adventurous coming out in the open every hour or so.  At times it will walk along the trunk from left to right and right to left. My Fuji XT-2 somewhat was not in its usual self and focus hunt in the dim condition.  Shooting  at ISO 3200 in speed below 1/30s

Above the Yellow-breasted Bulbul  comes in a pair. The Black-throated Babbler below  is a new comer to the port whilst  the  Black-capped are the common ones.The rarity would be the White-necked Babbler which I have seen at the right side of the road between  Deerland entrance and road-turning. You never know what will pop out like the Banded Kingfisher at the this hunt.

 Short-tailed was late to join the party and the Sharma was collecting the mealworm in beakful to feed its hatchling somewhere behind.

Pelagic 5/30 Lifer 476 - Lesser Crested Tern

This pelagic bird is seldom seen inshore but sometimes like in Melaka  or Seberang Prai you may chance upon it perch on rc  or bakau poles.

The Greater Crested Tern is the other cousin you can see more often to Jojor shores. Up north Penang is a rarity
