Avian Sighting June 2019 - Crested Jay

A family of 3 Crested Jay was quite active during one my trip with Joe to Taman Negara western side. Unfortunately, they were most elusive always hiding behind  thick of foliages. As you move to get an open perch view, it would fly off to the opposite side to your frustration.

Usually, it is active in the morning with its chattery call like a machine gun. So guys be weary of its call when you are at Merapoh.

APFc brown morph male with its long tail. It is a resident bird.

Other birds that came out to greet me are as posted here.
The rufous-crowned Babbler is one of the many babblers you can encounter here

The Crested Serpent Eagle in the wet morning on the way in to Perhilitan
Yellow-bellied fledgling still need to be fed
A pair of the common Hill Myna of Merapoh

Buff-rumped Woodie which came closed to Port 1
A raptor in a far tree probable a resident Honey Buzzard

Fruiting trees still not attractive here. The Ficus at the Padang still devoured of fruits though

What are they waiting for Joe?

Avian Field Report June 2019 - Awana Genting

Last weekend I reciprocate my good friend Azmi wants of the White-hooded Babbler. So up I go climbing the trail again with Azmi & his son in tow. He was lucky as within the hour along the trail I managed to glance upon the bird.  A quick playback got the bird interest for a short session of shooting. I only got one shot for myself as above in overcast lighting.

Before that, a pair of bronze drongo gave up some good closeup shots together with a pair of Verditer Flycatcher which stayed for a while as we were waiting at a ficus fruiting tree.

Avian sighting June 2019 - The White Hooded Babbler aka Collared Babbler

I was alone at Awana. Met TH Tang and his young novice birder Chris. Today I chance on a family of five birds. There must be a few juveniles fluttering their wings and calling to be fed. The bird can be seen at the foothill - Frasers Hill where there is plenty of bamboo outcrop. Problem is nobody stays long enough at the Gap to look for the bird. This is why it is an uncommon bird to see. But I think it is easier to see here in Genting Highland. Best of luck guys.

Still, I have not managed to get sharp photos of this bird as it stays a bit out in the ravine  and they appear in the open for a short period of time of less than a minute. Active and chattery bird  ..........

Meanwhile the highland is blooming and fruiting; some are still green and some are already attracting the Bulbuls and Barbets and Pigeon. The Wreath Hornbill was around in the morning.
