FLYCATCHER 22/25 - Yellow-rumped Flycatcher

Yellow-rumped Flycatcher
Years ago I saw a female YR Fc been eaten by our local Black-thighed Falconet. It was savage enuf that I did not want to post it. Thereafter I longed to see this beautiful visiting migrant again. Madi posted it first which he sighted in Kemensah during the starting migratory period of Oct 2009. Finally with some tip off from Yee and Jason on recent sightings during the return trip back north I tried my luck at Perdik at first and it was sighted with a glimpse at late noon at exactly the spot before the Eco resort Sg Perdik. Kiara was next and on hand guidance from my sifu who was coincidentally was there and bird luck for me to see it again. Owe him big time le. Gilbert and wifey was also there to enjoy the moment.

The Yellow-rumped Flycatcher is sometimes called the Korean Flycatcher or Tricolor Flycatcher. It is a species of flycatcher found in Asia about 13cm long. A distinctive species with almost no look-alike other than the Narcissus Flycatcher. It breeds in eastern Asia including parts of Mongolia, Transbaikal, southern China, Korea and western Japan. They winter in parts of the Peninsula Malaysia and some parts of South Asia. In all plumages the yellow rump is distinctive in both male and female. The white supercilium ie the brow of the male is contrasting against it black top & coat, separating it from the Narcissus Flycatcher which have the yellow supercillium and small patch of the Mugimaki Flycatcher which prefer the highlands in Malaysia. Simiiarity is the white patch coverts. Females and first year males are olive grey above with blackish tail with distinct eye lore and the yellow-rumped makes it an easy id.
The return of the first batch of migrants flycatcher took us by storm. Everywhere birders are reporting seeing YRFc. In Kiara 10 nos of Fc were seen on one fruiting tree as reported by resident birder Sifu Khong. A passage white morph Asian Paradise Fc was seen there too. What luck!

So for my catch can you see why its called a Yellow-rumped..............

So upon receiving news I also do not want to "chap si" so sneak 2 hours from home and got the female which I have yet to photo. The birds tends to keep to the higher storey and did not come down

Latest catch in Sg Congkak January 2019
