WOODPECKER 11/24 - Greater flameback Woodpecker

Greater Flameback Woodpecker

Never though of it as a lifer until got back to KL and cross reference the bird with Robson's. Pity I was not able to get a shot of the male when my wifey pointed to me where it was as I was presuming it as the Common Flameback . At that time I also was distracted by a threesome of velvet fronted nuthatches feeding at a nearby dead trunk which I cannot ignore.

The Greater Flameback has longer beak and broader eye band and looping submoustachial beside its larger size of about a foot plus compared to the Common Flameback. They tends to keep to the upper storey but during birdwave they may tag along or lead the way.
