It is one of the smaller wader coming in at only about 6 inches of 16cm. It is more common to see in peninsula Malaysia than the Little Stint during the migration period flying across from the tundra Siberia, Mongolia China to South East Asia until Australia. Jeram Selangor is where I sighted this bird; which is not far from the ever popular Kapar power station ash pond. in the coming months of Nov-Dec will see the invasion of a "spell" of stints and other waders.
Feature wise Red-necked and Little are looks the same. The difference minute asat the former is a bit hunched and short necked whilst the latter have longer legs & drooping longish beaks. The lower edge of the lower mandible of the Little is slightly but noticeably decurved. Red-necked tend to have straight, straight-sided, rather thick-tipped bills. Head-on, Little's bill tip is finer than Red-necked's. Little seems to have a fuller chest, a rounder belly, and more rounded 'shoulders' when feeding. Red-necked has a slender body with a rather flat, angular back shape.
2013 is my year for waders............
