Oriental Pratincole
I was back to Ipoh for the long weekend (Malaysia Day) for some good food and hopefully some birding at Khong's playground. On Saturday the weather was just dandy as I drived around the many detours and routes along the Tanjung Tualang - Malim Nawar stretch. As usual got lost. Sand mining is still rampant around the area and a hazard. So be very careful
Oriental Pratincole are visiting breeders to Malaysia. The month of September - November will see plenty of colonies setting foot here. They would not leave until as late as March. Apparently they stop travelling further south from here as the sandy tin mining habitat is already conducive for their purpose.
The Small Pratincole can also be seen in Peninsula Malaysia but as a vagrant and that is very rare. Most probably in Mangrove forest.
