Short-tailed Babbler is a bird of the lowland forest usually near
streams and disturbed vegetation as well as swampy forest. Usually a loner like
the white-chested unless breeding. It was weary of my present at about 20 ft
and keep behind some foliage not trusting me. It is "pseudo pitta" which rather hop about on the ground and undergrowth in search of grubs
Size wise is small less than 6 inches. It has this pure white throat which runs down to its belly. Face is greyish blue depending on lighting and the obvious black moustachial. It has rather long legs like pipit to scavenge on the ground for insects, grubs and attacking ant nest.
Later Madi and I heard the calling of the Rufous-fronted Babbler now that will be a rare sighting if it come out in the open. Left the place to Madi come noon to fetch the son .............hope he get it.
