The Chestnut-tailed Minla is also called Barred-throated Minla
The Chestnut-tailed Minla is a resident of
montane terrain above 1,500m whilst its only other cousin in Malaysia; the
Blue-winged Minla stays at lower territory below 1,600m or so. The
Chestnut-tailed is larger at 7 inches/ 18cm probably because of the cooler
habitat like Kwai loh rite?. It got a rufous crown and barred throated. Male
and female looks same-same. The Malaya sub-species are slightly different ie
duller color to its breast and more prominent barred throat compared to those
from the India,China Laos & Himalaya.
Minla feeds mainly on berries and fruits on shrubs and medium high trees in a family of a few. They do move a bit following the fruiting season of the trees. They tends to stays in the shades and seldom come out in the open.
Breeding season is from March -July. A cup like nest made from bark and moss at low level of less than 10 feet can be a lucky find if you try hard enuf.
