Kemensah lowland forest yield yet another
lifer of a Babbler. Picture not that great but still notch my lifer count to
340. Thank to Madi who on Sat id the call; wonder if he got his lifer
too.....hmmmm no sms from him.
Rufous-fronted Babbler is small less than 12cm or 5 inches in size. Rounded body with rufous capped (Pen Malaysia species is a bit darker and underside paler yellow), whitish grey eye lore & around. Throat is pale with faint stripe.
Their common habitat is moist, secondary bamboo evergreen forest like in Kemensah upto 2,000m. A loner most of the time and breed when partner is found which they will make their nest in palm tree & bamboo outcrop about 2 m from the ground in the months of Mar-April. Feed primary on fruits, worms and bugs on low trees and shrubs; probably prefer to stay away from the ground because of its smaller size and short legs.
