Javan Sparrow
Finally after so many visit back to Ipoh I
was rewarded with my first sighting of Java Sparrow at Kek Look Tong Ipoh. This
was after reading MNS Perak outing early September 2008 that it was sighted at
the hill crop. Lucky for me they were perching low on the fence wall of the
carpark compound. The closest I get to them was about 40 ft as they r
suspicious of my camera.Java sparrow is feral resident to Peninsula Malaysia. Used to see them in cages in the 80s but now they are found at the limestone hill crop areas with open grass fields. I only hope their numbers will not dwindling. For a good hour I sighted only 2 pairs.....unlike in Thailand they are in abundance in padi fileds and grass land
They r much bigger and broader than the common Eurasian Sparrow by a good inche
or 20mm. Its markings are obvious & exclusive. Juveniles are brownish
features. chirps sound like soft bell calls..........
